Albania's coastline is one of Europe's last relatively untouched stretches of Adriatic and Ionian coast. While places like Saranda and Ksamil get the crowds, the real appeal is in the secluded coves and hidden beaches that most tourists never find. Here are 10 worth visiting.

1. Gjipe Beach

One of the nicest beaches on the Albanian Riviera. Gjipe is a pebble beach between towering canyon walls, accessible only by a 20-minute hike (or 4WD). There's a small beach bar and campsite. The water is bright turquoise. How to get there: Drive to the village of Dhermi, then follow the dirt road to the canyon.

2. Jala Beach

A favorite among locals, Jala is a pebble beach with a lively beach bar scene but none of the crowds of Ksamil. It's just south of Himara and has some of the clearest water on the coast. Tip: Go for the grilled octopus at the beachfront taverna.

3. Llamani Beach

Just south of Dhermi, Llamani is a series of small coves separated by rocky headlands. Each cove has its own feel. The water is calm and clear, good for snorkeling. Access: A steep road leads down from the main highway.

4. Buneci Beach

Near Himara, Buneci is known for its dramatic cliffs and deep blue water. It's less developed than nearby beaches, with just a simple beach bar. The water gets deep quickly, which makes it good for swimming.

5. Krore Beach

A hidden gem accessible only by a 1km path through olive groves. Krore has a nice pebble shore and clear water. Bring your own supplies — there are no facilities.

6. Porto Palermo

A nice bay with a 19th-century fortress on a tiny peninsula. The beach itself is nice, but the main draw is the setting — turquoise water, green hills, and the historic castle. Bonus: Visit the submarine tunnel inside the hill.

7. Livadhi Beach

One of the longest beaches on the coast, Livadhi stretches for several kilometers near Himara. It's more developed than some, but still quiet compared to beaches further south. Good for long walks and sunset views.

8. Kakome Beach

Accessible only by boat or a rough 4WD road, Kakome is the definition of a hidden beach. It's a small pebble cove with clear water, surrounded by wild Mediterranean vegetation. You'll often have it entirely to yourself.

9. Pasqyra Beach

Named "Mirror Beach" for its reflective turquoise water, Pasqyra is a small pebble beach near Borsh. It's accessed by a long staircase down the cliff. The water is calm, clean, and good for swimming. There's a small bar at the top.

10. Borsh Beach

The longest beach in Albania at 7km, Borsh has plenty of space even in peak season. The southern end is quieter and less developed. The water is shallow and warm — good for families. Don't miss: The olive oil tasting at local farms above the beach.
