Week 1: Slovenia, Croatia & Bosnia
Day 1-2: Ljubljana & Lake Bled (Slovenia)
Start in Ljubljana. Explore the castle, riverbanks, and central market. Day 2: drive to Lake Bled (45 min). Row to the island, visit the castle, eat kremšnita cake.
Day 3-4: Plitvice & Zadar (Croatia)
Drive to Plitvice Lakes (2.5 hours). Spend a day on the boardwalks through 16 turquoise lakes. Day 4: drive to Zadar (1 hour) for the Sea Organ sunset.
Day 5-6: Split & Dubrovnik (Croatia)
Drive to Split (1.5 hours). Explore Diocletian's Palace. Day 6: drive to Dubrovnik (3 hours) via Ston for fresh oysters. Walk the walls at sunset.
Day 7: Kotor to Mostar (Montenegro & Bosnia)
Drive to Kotor (1.5 hours). Climb the fortress walls. Continue to Mostar (2.5 hours) via the scenic coastal route through Neum (Bosnia's only coastal town).
Week 2: Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo & North Macedonia
Day 8-9: Mostar & Sarajevo (Bosnia)
See Stari Most bridge and Kravice waterfalls. Drive to Sarajevo (2 hours). Explore Baščaršija, the tunnel museum, and the Yellow Fortress.
Day 10-11: Belgrade & Novi Sad (Serbia)
Drive to Belgrade (5 hours). Visit Kalemegdan Fortress and Skadarlija. Day 11: train to Novi Sad (35 min) for Petrovaradin Fortress.
Day 12-13: Pristina & Prizren (Kosovo)
Drive to Pristina (4.5 hours). Visit the Bill Clinton statue and Germia Park. Drive to Prizren (1 hour) — Kosovo's prettiest city, with a riverside old town.
Day 14: Skopje & Matka Canyon (North Macedonia)
Drive from Prizren to Skopje (2 hours). See the Macedonia Square statues and Old Bazaar. Drive 30 min to Matka Canyon for an afternoon boat trip.

Week 3: North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro & Back
Day 15-16: Ohrid (North Macedonia) & Tirana (Albania)
Drive to Ohrid (2 hours). Swim in the lake, visit St. Naum monastery. Day 16: drive to Tirana (3 hours). Explore the colorful buildings and bunkers.
Day 17-18: Albanian Riviera
Drive to Saranda (4 hours). Visit the Blue Eye Spring en route. Explore Butrint ruins, Ksamil Islands, and the hidden beaches of the Riviera.
Day 19: Budva & Sveti Stefan (Montenegro)
Drive to Budva (4 hours). Walk the old town and see Sveti Stefan viewpoint. Overnight in Budva or Kotor.
Day 20-21: Dubrovnik & Departure
Drive back to Dubrovnik (1.5 hours). Final walk through the Old Town, last seafood dinner. Fly home from Dubrovnik Airport.
Practical Tips
- Border crossings: EU borders (Slovenia, Croatia) are easy; non-EU borders (Bosnia, Serbia, etc.) require a passport check but are usually quick (10-20 min)
- Car rental: Pick up in Ljubljana, drop off in Dubrovnik. One-way fees apply (~€100 extra)
- Tolls: Croatia has expensive toll highways (€30-40 total). Slovenia needs a vignette (€15/week)
- Insurance: Make sure your rental includes green card insurance for non-EU countries
