Important: Balkan Guide provides travel information and planning tools for general informational purposes. We are not a travel agency, tour operator, transportation provider, hotel, restaurant, insurer, immigration authority, government agency, or emergency service. Travel information changes quickly, and you are responsible for independently confirming the details that matter to your trip.

1. Acceptance of These Terms

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of www.balkanguide.net (the "Site"), operated by ID&Associates LLC ("we," "our," or "us"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

If you use the Site on behalf of another person, company, or organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms on their behalf.

2. Description of Service

Balkan Guide publishes free travel guides, destination information, itineraries, and planning resources covering countries in the Balkan region. The Site is provided for general informational purposes and is free to access. Some links on the Site are affiliate links, as described in Section 14.

The Site may include destination guides and articles, itinerary and route recommendations, interactive planning tools, maps and estimated travel times, budget and cost information, restaurant recommendations, transportation information, border-crossing and visa-planning information, safety information, accommodation and activity recommendations, travel gear recommendations, links to third-party providers, affiliate links, and email newsletters.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time.

3. Travel Information Disclaimer

The content on this Site is provided for general informational purposes only. Travel information changes constantly and without notice. Prices, opening hours, schedules, transport routes, visa and entry requirements, border procedures, driving regulations, and safety conditions can change at any time.

Conditions can change because of government policies, border controls, visa and entry requirements, weather, natural disasters, road conditions, construction, strikes, political or civil events, transport cancellations or schedule changes, seasonal closures, restaurant or accommodation closures, operator policies, currency fluctuations, and other circumstances outside our control.

• We make reasonable efforts to keep our guides accurate and current, but we do not warrant that any information on the Site is accurate, complete, or up to date at the time you read it.
• You are responsible for independently verifying any information before relying on it — particularly entry requirements, visa rules, border crossings, transport schedules, and safety advice — using official sources such as government travel advisories, embassies, and transport operators.
• Our content does not constitute professional travel, legal, medical, financial, or safety advice. Consult a qualified professional where appropriate.
• Any activity you undertake based on information from this Site is done at your own risk.

4. Visas, Passports and Border Crossings

Information about visas, passports, border crossings, entry requirements, customs, and travel documents is provided for general planning purposes only, and we do not determine whether you are eligible to enter any country. Requirements can depend on your nationality, passport type, residence status, destination, transit countries, length and purpose of travel, and current government policy.

You are solely responsible for confirming the requirements that apply to you with the relevant embassy, consulate, border authority, or other official source before you travel.

5. Trip Planner, Routes and Estimated Times

The Site provides interactive tools that help generate itineraries, routes, destination selections, and estimated driving times, distances, and budgets. These outputs are planning estimates, not guarantees. In particular:

• Suggested routes may not be the fastest or safest available route.
• Estimated travel times do not account for traffic, border delays, road conditions, weather, construction, ferries, stops, or other delays.
• Routes may depend on roads, ferries, borders, permits, vehicle restrictions, or seasonal openings that can change.
• A route that is technically possible may not be suitable for your vehicle, experience, schedule, or circumstances.
• Suggested destinations may not be appropriate for every traveller.

You are responsible for checking your route and conditions before setting out. Do not rely on the Site as your only means of navigation — use appropriate navigation tools and follow official road signs and local instructions.

Where the Site provides fuel-cost estimates, those figures use assumptions about distance, fuel consumption, fuel price, vehicle type, and route. Actual consumption and cost will differ because of driving style, traffic, terrain, weather, vehicle load and condition, and fuel prices. Fuel estimates are for planning purposes only.

6. Maps and Third-Party Mapping Data

The Site displays maps and route information using third-party mapping services and geographic data. Map information may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable, and roads, borders, trails, ferry routes, addresses, and businesses can change. Always follow official signage and local authorities where their directions differ from what the Site displays.

The Site may discuss buses, trains, ferries, flights, car rentals, taxis, and transfers. We do not operate or control these services. Schedules, fares, availability, luggage rules, cancellation policies, routes, vehicle requirements, and border permissions are set by the relevant provider — confirm current details directly with them before purchasing.

We are not responsible for missed connections, cancellations, delays, denied boarding, lost luggage, vehicle problems, additional fees, or other transport-related losses.

8. Accommodation, Restaurants and Activity Recommendations

The Site recommends hotels, apartments, restaurants, attractions, tours, activities, and rental or transfer companies. A recommendation is not a guarantee that a business will meet your expectations. Businesses may change prices, hours, menus, services, policies, or ownership, and may close temporarily or permanently, including after we publish information about them. Please verify current details directly with the business before making a decision.

Restaurant recommendations reflect editorial research at the time of publication and are not guarantees of food quality, availability, safety, or service. If you have food allergies, dietary restrictions, or other health requirements, confirm ingredients and preparation practices directly with the restaurant.

9. Prices, Currencies and Cost Estimates

Prices, budgets, exchange rates, fees, tolls, fuel prices, accommodation rates, transport fares, and restaurant prices shown on the Site are estimates or observations unless we expressly state otherwise. Prices vary by date, season, demand, location, currency, provider, availability, booking conditions, taxes, promotions, and exchange rates.

We do not guarantee that a displayed price will be available when you come to book. Confirm the final price directly with the provider before purchasing.

10. Safety Information

Safety information on the Site is general travel information and is not a substitute for official warnings, professional advice, or your own assessment of current conditions. Before taking part in activities such as hiking, mountaineering, swimming, boating, skiing, cycling, driving, camping, or water sports, you are responsible for assessing the risks and obtaining appropriate information, equipment, permits, training, supervision, and insurance.

Conditions in mountains, on roads, at borders, in national parks, and in outdoor areas can change rapidly. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service rather than relying on the Site.

11. Travel Insurance

Information about travel insurance is provided for general educational and comparison purposes, and we do not determine whether a policy is suitable for you. Before purchasing insurance, review the actual policy wording, including exclusions, coverage limits, deductibles, geographical coverage, activity exclusions, pre-existing-condition provisions, and claims procedures. A link or recommendation is not insurance advice and is not a guarantee that a claim will be covered.

13. Bookings and Purchases Through Third Parties

We may direct you to third-party providers for accommodation, transport, activities, insurance, eSIMs, car rental, and other services. Unless we expressly state otherwise, we are not the seller, merchant, booking agent, or contracting party for those transactions — your contract is with the provider. Questions about reservations, payments, refunds, cancellations, changes, delays, claims, or customer service should be directed to that provider.

14. Affiliate Relationships

The Site participates in affiliate marketing programs, including Amazon Associates, CJ Affiliate, Travelpayouts, and others. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or booking, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial recommendations. 15. Editorial Independence

We aim to provide useful, independently researched travel information. Affiliate compensation does not guarantee inclusion, placement, or a positive recommendation, and we also link to businesses and services that have no affiliate relationship with us. However, you should consider the existence of an affiliate relationship when evaluating a recommendation.

16. Intellectual Property

All original content on the Site — including text, photography, graphics, logos, page layout, and the compilation of information — is the property of ID&Associates LLC or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The "Balkan Guide" name and logo are our trademarks.

You may view, share links to, and print pages from the Site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link to the original page. You may not, without our prior written permission:

• Reproduce, republish, or redistribute substantial portions of our content
• Use our content or imagery for commercial purposes
• Frame, mirror, or present our content as your own
• Use our name, logo, or branding in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation

17. Third-Party and Open-Source Content

Some parts of the Site use third-party data, software, maps, images, or libraries. Some images are used under Creative Commons or other third-party licences and remain the property of their respective owners. Those materials may be subject to separate licence terms, and where applicable the relevant licence or attribution governs their permitted use. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of third-party intellectual property to us or to you.

18. Copyright Complaints

If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, contact us with enough information for us to investigate, including: identification of the copyrighted work; identification and location of the allegedly infringing material on the Site; your contact information; a statement of your good-faith belief that the use is unauthorised; a statement that the information you provide is accurate; and your physical or electronic signature where legally required.

19. Email Communications

If you subscribe to a Balkan Guide newsletter, you may receive travel guides, planning resources, and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email. Transactional, security, or legally required communications may still be sent where permitted or required by law.

20. Privacy and Cookies

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect, how optional analytics are consent-gated, and how to withdraw consent. Please review it. It forms part of these Terms.

21. User Communications

If you send us a message, correction, suggestion, review, or photograph, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, edit, publish, and display that material on the Site and in our communications, with or without attribution. You confirm that you own or have the necessary rights to the material, that it does not infringe anyone else's rights, and that you have any permissions required for people or places shown in it. Please do not send us confidential or proprietary information, or any material you do not have the right to share. If you would like a submission kept private, tell us clearly in your message and we will respect that.

22. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its servers, or any connected systems
• Introduce viruses, malware, or any other harmful code
• Use automated scrapers, bots, or bulk extraction tools to harvest content or data from the Site
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation, security, or availability of the Site
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation when contacting us

We reserve the right to restrict or block access to the Site for any user who violates these provisions.

23. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:

• The Site and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
• ID&Associates LLC, its owners, employees, and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or any content on it.
• Without limiting the above, we are not liable for any loss, injury, damage, delay, expense, or inconvenience resulting from: reliance on information published on the Site; travel disruptions; missed transport or connections; accommodation or transport problems; denied entry at a border; visa or immigration issues; road closures; accidents; injuries; weather; natural disasters; business closures; incorrect or outdated information; price changes; booking failures; cancellations; lost luggage; or any act or omission of a third party.
• Where a jurisdiction does not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or liabilities, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Our total aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid directly to us for the applicable service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 100.

24. Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless ID&Associates LLC and its owners, employees, contractors, and contributors from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, material you submit to us, your violation of another person's rights, or your dealings with third-party providers. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own conduct where applicable law prohibits indemnification.

25. Force Majeure and Site Availability

We try to keep the Site available and functioning, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The Site may be unavailable because of maintenance, software updates, hosting or network failures, security incidents, third-party service failures, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We may change or discontinue features without notice where reasonably necessary. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, severe weather, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government actions, epidemics or pandemics, labour disputes, infrastructure failures, or cyber incidents.

26. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically. If a material change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we will provide that notice or obtain that consent.

27. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

Before starting formal legal proceedings, you agree to give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute by contacting us at the address in Section 31, and both parties will attempt to resolve the matter in good faith. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive or equitable relief where appropriate, or from exercising rights that cannot legally be waived.

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Site shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Missouri, United States of America, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Missouri for the resolution of any such dispute, except to the extent mandatory consumer-protection or other laws applicable to you require otherwise.

28. Severability, No Waiver and Entire Agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce it later. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding use of the Site.

29. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent, except where applicable law permits otherwise. We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets.

30. Geographic Scope and Children's Use

The Site may be accessed from different countries, and we do not represent that it or every feature is appropriate or legally available in every jurisdiction. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you when using the Site.

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age at which parental consent is required by applicable law. If you are a minor, use the Site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required. Our handling of children's data is described in our Privacy Policy.
