The Balkans have a festival for pretty much everyone. World-famous electronic music gatherings, traditional folk celebrations that have been running for centuries, food and wine events. Music lovers, foodies, culture enthusiasts. There's something here for you.

Here's a month-by-month calendar of the best festivals across the Balkans in 2026.

Spring Festivals (March — May)

🎭 Zagreb Museum Night — Croatia

📅 Late January📍 Croatia

While technically winter, this is one of the year's biggest events. Over 60 museums across Zagreb open their doors for free until 1AM, with special exhibitions, concerts, and performances. Free, family-friendly, and uniquely Croatian.

🍷 Wine & Walk — Montenegro & Slovenia

📅 April — May📍 Montenegro, Slovenia

Spring is wine festival season across the Balkans. Montenegro's Crmnica Wine Festival (April) features tastings from local vineyards in the region's best wine-growing area. Slovenia's St. Martin's Day celebrations (November) are famous, but spring wine walks through the hills of Primorska are equally worth doing.

🌸 Sarajevo Spring — Bosnia

📅 April📍 Bosnia & Herzegovina

A month-long arts and culture festival featuring theatre, music, film, and visual arts in venues across Sarajevo. A good introduction to Bosnia's cultural scene in a city that blends East and West.

Summer Festivals (June — August)

🎵 EXIT Festival — Serbia

📅 July 9-12📍 Serbia

The Balkans' most famous festival. Held at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, EXIT draws 200,000+ visitors annually with headliners like The Cure, David Guetta, and Iggy Pop. The fortress setting is spectacular. Multiple stages spread across a 17th-century citadel overlooking the Danube. Day tickets from €50, 4-day passes from €130.

🌊 Sea Dance Festival — Montenegro

📅 July📍 Montenegro

EXIT's sister festival on the beaches of Budva. Electronic music, beach parties, Adriatic sunsets. Smaller and more relaxed than EXIT, with a focus on house, techno, and chill-out vibes right on the sand.

🏖️ Ultra Europe — Croatia

📅 July 10-12📍 Croatia

The European edition of the legendary Miami festival. Ultra Europe in Split brings world-class electronic DJs to the Dalmatian coast. The main event at Stadion Poljud is followed by Ultra Beach and Ultra Boat parties throughout the week.

🎭 Ohrid Summer Festival — North Macedonia

📅 July — August📍 North Macedonia

One of Europe's oldest and most prestigious cultural festivals. Held at the ancient Theatre of Ohrid, overlooking Lake Ohrid, this festival features classical music, ballet, opera, and theatre performances from July through August. A UNESCO-backed event in a lakeside setting that's hard to beat.

🍻 Pivo i Cvijeće (Beer & Flowers) — Bosnia

📅 Late June📍 Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia's biggest music festival in Sarajevo. Despite the quirky name (it started as a flower market), it's now a massive multi-stage music festival with rock, pop, electronic, and Balkan brass bands. Cheap beer, great vibes, and a uniquely Bosnian atmosphere.

🎺 Guča Trumpet Festival — Serbia

📅 First week of August📍 Serbia

The world's largest trumpet festival — and one of the most authentic experiences in the Balkans. Every August, the tiny village of Guča (population 2,000) swells to over 300,000 people for five days of brass bands, rakija, and roast lamb. Founded in 1961, the Dragačevo Trumpet Festival crowns the "First Trumpet of Guča" in a fiercely competitive tournament. Legendary players like Boban Marković (11-time winner) and Dejan Petrović have turned Balkan brass into a global phenomenon. Unlike commercial music festivals, Guča is a raw village-wide street party — music spills from every kafana, tent, and square from Wednesday night until Sunday morning. Entry is minimal (€10–20/day), accommodation books up months in advance, and the atmosphere is unlike anything else in Europe. Full Serbia guide →

🎬 Dokufest — Kosovo

📅 August📍 Kosovo

One of the most distinctive documentary film festivals in the world, held in the stunning medieval city of Prizren. Films screen outdoors in historic mosques, on bridges over the Bistrica River, and in a 14th-century fortress overlooking the old town. Dokufest has been called "the most vibrant film festival you've never heard of" — it punches far above its weight with a program of social-issue documentaries, Balkan cinema, and late-night riverside parties. Entry is cheap, Prizren's Ottoman-era old town is gorgeous, and the blend of world-class films with summer Balkan vibes makes it a perfect cultural stop. Full Kosovo guide →

Fall Festivals (September — October)

🍇 Grape Harvest Festivals — Across the Balkans

📅 September — October📍 Multiple countries

Autumn is harvest season. Montenegro's grape harvest in Podgorica and the Crmnica Valley features traditional grape-stomping and wine tastings. Slovenia's wine roads in Primorska offer guided tours through vineyards. Bulgaria's Melnik region celebrates with local wine and traditional music.

🎪 Belgrade Beer Fest — Serbia

📅 August/September📍 Serbia

Serbia's biggest beer festival, held on the banks of the Danube at Belgrade's Ušće park. Over 500,000 visitors, 50+ breweries, and live music from Serbian and regional bands. Free entry. You only pay for drinks and food.

📚 Bookstan — Sarajevo

📅 September📍 Bosnia & Herzegovina

Sarajevo's literary festival with author talks, book signings, and panel discussions in the historic heart of the city. Held in multiple venues across Baščaršija, the old Ottoman bazaar. Good for culture-focused travelers.

Winter Festivals (November — February)

🎄 Christmas Markets — Slovenia & Croatia

📅 December📍 Slovenia, Croatia

Ljubljana's Christmas market is one of Europe's most beautiful. The entire old town is lit up with fairy lights, mulled wine stalls, and artisan craft markets. Zagreb's Advent market has been voted European Best Christmas Market multiple times. Both run from late November through early January.

⛷️ Ski Festivals — Bulgaria, Slovenia & Romania

📅 January — February📍 Bulgaria, Slovenia, Romania

Winter sports festivals take over Balkan ski resorts. Bulgaria's Bansko Jazz Festival (February) combines skiing with world-class jazz. Slovenia's Vogel Ski Festival offers discounted lift passes and après-ski parties. Romania's Poiana Brașov hosts winter sports competitions and festive events throughout the season.
