About Sixteen Lakes Region
The Sixteen Lakes region - Plitvice Lakes plateau and its surrounding villages - is Croatia's most enchanting natural area. Just north of the park lies Rastoke, a fairytale watermill village where the Slunjcica River cascades over travertine barriers through centuries-old mills. Called 'Little Plitvice'. Licko Petrovo has family guesthouses serving Lika cuisine - lamb under the peka, cheeses, rakija. Wildlife includes bears, wolves, lynx.

May-June or September-October (15-22C). Spring lush waterfalls. July-August peak - park queues 2h. Winter frozen wonderland, park open but some trails close.
