Travel Tips & Guides
Brod (Gorani: Brodi) is one of Kosovo's most beautiful mountain villages, perched at an altitude of around 1,400 meters in the Sharr Mountains, just 4 km from the town of Dragash. Known for its distinctive Gorani-style houses with iconic stone-slab roofs (pllakë), Brod feels frozen in time — a traditional alpine settlement where shepherds still drive their flocks through the streets and the pace of life follows the seasons rather than the clock.
The village is part of the Gorani ethnic region, inhabited by the Gorani people — a Slavic-speaking Muslim community with a distinct cultural identity that straddles the Kosovo-Albania-Macedonia border region. Brod offers a rare glimpse into a vanishing way of life: traditional stone-masonry techniques, centuries-old farming practices, and warm hospitality that has survived the region's turbulent modern history.
In winter, Brod transforms into a small but charming ski destination with a local T-bar lift. In summer, it's a base for hiking into the pristine Sharr Mountains. For travelers seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences in Kosovo, Brod is one of the most rewarding places you can visit.
By car: Brod is 4 km from Dragash, which is about 2 hours from Pristina (120 km via the M2 to Ferizaj, then through Prizren and toward Dragash). The road to Dragash via Prizren is well-paved. The final 4 km to Brod is a narrow but paved road with some steep sections — manageable with any car. From Prizren, it's about 1 hour (50 km). By bus: Take a bus from Pristina to Prizren (1.5 hours, €5), then a Prizren-Dragash minibus (1 hour, €3-4). From Dragash, take a taxi to Brod (€5-8, 10 minutes). Buses from Pristina to Dragash are infrequent (2-3 per day, €6-8). By taxi from Prizren: €35-50 for a direct trip to Brod, depending on negotiation. By organized tour: Some Prizren-based operators offer day trips to Dragash and Brod. Inquire at travel agencies in Prizren for prices and availability.
Compare apartments, guesthouses, and vacation rentals while you finalize your route. Flexible cancellation can help when drive times or border plans change.
